Cristina Romera Castillo (Jaén, 1982) is an oceanographer and works at the Institute of Marine Sciences-CSIC in Barcelona. With a degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Marine Sciences, her research has focused on the oceanic carbon cycle. She is currently studying the impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems and climate, and the bacteria capable of degrading them. She has received several national and international awards for her work, including the For Women in Science 2019, from L'Oreal-UNESCO; the Raymond L. Lindeman Award 2020, from the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO); and the International Rising Talents 2020, from L'Oreal-UNESCO.
